The competition seeks to revive the spirit of the Renaissance, a period renowned for its artistic and cultural rebirth, through the medium of bas relief wood carvings. Participants are encouraged to let their imagination soar and exhibit their artistic prowess. The competition provides a platform for artists to demonstrate their talent and compete for attractive prizes. Winners stand a chance to receive monetary rewards and the unique opportunity to have their artwork displayed at The Manila Hotel, The competition is not just about winning; it’s a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Philippine art.

Wood Carving Competition Mechanics: Renaissance-themed Bas Relief Wood Carving

Contest Details:

    1. Eligibility: Open to all wood carving enthusiasts residing in the Philippines.
  1. Artwork Specifications:
        • Theme: Renaissance (Avoid or No Religious Depiction); Design must be original
        • Style: Bas Relief Wood Carving
        • Dimensions: 30 inches x 48 inches (landscape or portrait orientation)
        • Wood Thickness: Minimum 4 to 5 inches
        • Must leave thickness to 1 inch when carved
        • Wood Type: Hard Wood (e.g., Acacia, Narra, Kamagong, Molave, Mahogany etc.)
        • Wood Patching is Prohibited; Entire wood piece must be used. (Buo dapat na kahoy bawal tagpi-tagpi)

  2. Submission Requirements:
    • Fill-in Registration Form Below
    • Submit a Video introduction of yourself and about your art work. Click here to submit video
    • Time-Lapse Video: Participants must submit a time-lapse video showcasing their carving process. This video will be posted on social media for public viewing. The Video must be 1080P resolution or more and on Landscape Format or 16×9 aspect ratio. 
    • Progress Milestones:
      • December 2024: 50% of the work must be accomplished, with a time-lapse video as proof.
      • February 2025: 100% completion.

  3. Prizes:
    • Grand Winner: PHP 250,000.00
    • 1st Place: PHP 150,000.00
    • 2nd Place: PHP 100,000.00
    • 3rd Place: PHP 75,000.00
    • 4th Place: PHP 50,000.00
    • 5th to 19th Place: PHP 25,000.00 each

  4. Exhibition:
    • The Top 20 artworks will be displayed (location TBA).
  5. Competition Timeline:
    • Registration Period: January 22, 2024, to Extended October 30, 2024.
    • December 2024: Participants must achieve 50% completion with a time-lapse video submission.
    • First week of February 2025: Participants must achieve 100% completion.
    • Exhibition and awarding of winners at (Location TBA) February 2025.

7. Judging Criteria:

  • 20% – Adherence to Renaissance theme 
  • 30% – Technical skill and craftsmanship
  • 30% – Creativity and originality
  • 20% – Overall visual impact
  • TOTAL of 100% 

8. Note: 

The competition aims to celebrate the rich tradition of wood carving in the Philippines while encouraging participants to showcase their skills and creativity within the context of Renaissance art. The time-lapse videos provide a transparent view of the artistic process, engaging the public in the evolution of each artwork. The generous prizes and prestigious exhibition venue at The Manila Hotel aim to recognize and reward the outstanding talents in the field of bas relief wood carving.

9. Ownership:

Upon winning and receiving a prize, the winning artwork becomes the property of Artquest.

10. Publicity:

Participants grant Artquest the right to use their names, images, and artwork for promotional purposes.

11. Disqualification:

Artquest reserves the right to disqualify participants who violate the terms and conditions.

12. Changes to the Competition:

Artquest reserves the right to modify or cancel the competition in case of unforeseen circumstances.

13. Agreement to Terms:

Participation in the competition implies acceptance of these terms and conditions.
